Beer and beverage alcohol are still facing headwinds, but Q2 declines in beer and wine were partially offset by growth in spirits — up 2.4% in volume. Prepared cocktails continue to fuel the momentum in spirits, boasting 15% growth in both volume and dollars. Tequila and cordials were both up slightly, while other spirits categories continued to decline. Meanwhile, wine-based cocktails surged with double-digit growth, compared with sangria, which showed the largest losses in both dollar and volume.
Not surprisingly, adult non-alc categories continue to post strong numbers, with the largest growth overwhelmingly occurring in the super premium beer category. The non-alcoholic beverage category enjoyed 3.1% year over year dollar growth, led by energy drinks, soft drinks, sparkling water, and coconut water.
